Ithe Bhetla Andaman -- Seen it

Image
The flight landed safely at Veer Savarkar International Airport. We did it.I took a deep breath.Little bit of drizzling.Since this airport is also used by Indian Navy, photography was strictly prohibited. We found a tourist info booth where I bought a map,as it would come handy in this no-to-less network area.Hired a cab to hotel. As the cab hit the road,we both pressed our respective noses to the windows. I had a stereotypical notion about Andaman;the lifestyle is not like the mainland that we live in.This place will be mostly filled with aggressive tribals following cannibalism to some extent and dense forests.Oh ya..I actually thought that:| There is an exaggerated version of Andaman on the internet to attract people as tourism is the lifeline. However what you see in google images and the real Andaman are quite different. It's not like you will be merged with the nature with no connection with the outside world at all. There is enough network...

Ithe Bhetla Andaman -- The Beginning

I guess I was in seventh grade when my sister made me read it. Maajhi Janmathep. Veer Savarkar’s autobiography .His name evokes controversy, but a man who spent the best years of his life participating in a fierce struggle for the independence of the country, forgoing all comfort in life and consciously choosing the suffering and hardships when he could have opted to stay at home ,definitely deserves much more respect than the ignorance that has been given. Me and my two lets-pack-and-run friends religiously googled lowest flight fares from Chennai to Port Blair, hotel bookings, places to visit etc. The first question was shall we take a travel package or not? In the Andaman islands, anything can...

So, we headed for Kavaloor. Cab driver dropped us(and those bags) to Bannikoppa bus stop. It was around 8 o'clock at night. All I could see were two small stalls. Bus's arrival time was around 8.30.We entered one of the stalls;the local guys had a look and completely ignored us:P We(means Saavi..I dare not try my Kannada this time) asked the stall keeper if we could get two cups of tea.(FTR,we both are die hard tea connoisseurs). He offered us two cutie pie cups of strong tea.He also asked us if we are relatives of "Badi Haveli" of the village :D At that time, one TumTum wala guy called us.Since he claimed of having ample(?) space,we decided to take the offer.I asked the stall keeper,"Yeshtu?(How much?)".He said "Aaru"(6).I thought I heard him wrong and hence, asked him again. He showed six fingers. My jaw dropped.6 for two cups of tea!! Where was I? As I had only 5Rp and I was hurrying to get back the TumTum, the stall keeper was generous enou...
